TRACT 4

Who Should Be Baptized

And

How Should I Be Baptized?

WHO SHOULD BE BAPTIZED ACTS 2:38

Then Peter said unto them, “Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Every one who have repented of their sins and accepted Jesus as Lord of their life should be baptized. God gives us an order to follow.

First, we are to repent of our sins; repent means to turn from your sin. Second, we are to be baptized? No one should be baptized who has not first repented of his or her sins. The Bible always says repent and be baptized. NEVER! BAPTIZED AND THEN REPENT. If you were baptized before you repented, you need to be re-baptized and start living your life for Christ.

WHY SHOULD YOU BE BAPTIZED?

First. It is a command of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Matt. 28:19, says “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus doesn’t tell you to do anything that would be wrong. He was without sin. He even showed us how to be baptized, so we would know the correct way.Matt. 3:13-16. Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying I have need to be baptized of Thee, and comest Thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him. (Permit) it to be so now; for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he (permitted) Him. And Jesus when He was baptized went up straightway out of the water

Peter says in Acts 2:41. They that believe; truly believed, will be baptized. “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized.

Now you know you should be baptized after you have repented and been born-again.

How should you be baptized ?. You can only be baptized by immersion (under water). Not by being sprinkled. There is not one time in the Bible that a person was ever sprinkled for baptism.

Jesus baptized by John in Jordan (river). (Mark. 1:9). The eunuch, was baptized in the river, “they both went down into the water.” (Acts 8:38). The reason for being placed under the water is, it shows a picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of your old way of life. Baptism reproduces, in terms of sight, Calvary’s cross Christ’s death on that cross, Christ’s burial after His death, His resurrection the third day after burial.         (Rom. 6:3-5): Know ye not, that so many of us were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death. Therefore  we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.

It’s a command to be baptized, you need to be an obedient child of God. God says, in

I John 2:3, “and hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments”. If you refuse to be baptized (by immersion), you are disobedient to God.     (James 4:17), “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” Do you love God ? then! follow Him today in baptism. Only baptism by immersion pictures, the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.
