THE UNPARDONABLE SIN Our
subject today is a very controversial subject; one, which people everywhere, is
interested in. Although most don’t understand what the Bible has to say about
it, they are seeking the truth. This subject is one that Satan uses to confuse
and mislead people. Today we will let the Word of God speak to us on this issue.
The unpardonable sin. It is found in Matt. 12:31,32. “WHEREFORE
I SAY UNTO YOU, ALL MANNER OF SIN AND BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST SHALL NOT
BE FORGIVEN UNTO MEN. AND WHOSOEVER SPEAKETH A WORD AGAINST THE SON OF MAN, IT
SHALL BE FORGIVEN HIM BUT WHOSOEVER SPEAKETH AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST IT SHALL NOT
BE FORGIVEN HIM. NEITHER IN THIS WORLD, NEITHER IN THE WORLD TO COME.
Friends Satan frequently uses this subject to confuse and condemn both believers
and unbelievers. God says there is a sin that cannot be forgiven in this age or
in the world to come. It is a most serious subject so I want your close
attention today. This subject is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Now
as we consider this unpardonable sin let us consider what this sin is not.
Christians do not commit this sin. If you are concern about the possibility of
committing this sin, don’t be, because you never have. This sin cannot be committed
by a child of God’s. A born-again child of God cannot commit this sin. IN
WHOM YE ALSO TRUSTED AFTER THAT YE HEARD THE WORD OF TRUTH, THE GOSPEL OF YOUR
SALVATION: IN WHOM ALSO AFTER YE BELIEVED, YE WERE SEALED WITH THAT HOLY SPIRIT
OF PROMISE (EPH. 1:13). Friends when ever a person is saved is saved he
receives the Holy Spirit. “BUT IF THE SPIRIT OF HIM THAT RAISED UP
JESUS FROM THE DEAD DWELL IN YOU, HE THAT RAISED UP CHRIST FROM THE DEAD SHALL
ALSO QUICKEN YOUR MORTAL BODIES BY HIS SPIRIT THAT DEWELLETH IN YOU (ROM.
8:11). Friends in (John 14:16,17) Jesus clearly states, He will abide with you
forever. The Holy Spirit has a three fold ministry here on earth “AND
WHEN HE IS COME HE WILL REPROVE THE WORLD OF SIN, AND OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND
JUDGEMENT (John 16:8). It is very important that a Christian does not
grieve, quench resist, or vex the Holy Spirit of God. He is the one who convicts
the world of sin. He illuminates God’s Word. He aids our prayer life,
restrains Satan from us, and empowers us to witness for Christ and on and on we
could go with the work of the Holy Spirit. We must remember it is a serious
matter for a Christian to offend and resist the Holy Spirit, but it is not the
unpardonable sin. People often get the sin unto death mixed up with the
unpardonable sin. As we learnt last week these are two different sins and
committed by different class of people. Believers commit the sin unto death only
and it brings about physical death. The “unpardonable sin”, can only be committed
by the unsaved of the world and it brings about spiritual death for
eternity. What
is the unpardonable sin? It is the climax of an unbeliever’s repeated
rejection of the Holy Spirit. The context of (Matt. 12:24-35) is about the
speech Jesus gave to the Pharisees who had seen the power of God and heard the
Gospel repeatedly. These were people who knew the Word of God. Some of them did
believe, but most of them hardened their hearts and even called Jesus Satan and
we see in verse 25 that Jesus knew their thoughts. Now this is the key to the
unpardonable sin! The unpardonable sin is not in the mouth or what you say it is
not what determines the unpardonable sin. This sin begins in the heart. People
often confuse verse 32 with the unpardonable sin, but people speak against the
Holy Spirit because they have rejected Him in their hearts. Have you ever notice
when talking to some unsaved, you will find some speak more against God than
others do. If you will trace there past life you will find most of them have
rejected God many times. Each time God comes to them they say stronger words
against God until finally they have committed this unpardonable sin. The Bible
tells us about such people. Do you remember Pharaoh in Egypt? The story is told
in Exodus chapter 7-11. You will remember that God sent Moses to ask Pharaoh to
let His children go (the Jews). You will find that Pharaoh agreed to let them go
several times and them hardened his heart! In Exodus 8:15; 8:19; 8:32. Pharaoh
hardened his heart! In Exodus 9:9; 9:12; 9:35 we read that the heart of Pharaoh
was hardened and then the Lord hardened his heart. Friends God sent Moses to
tell Pharaoh to let his people go. After Moses showed the power of God, Pharaoh
agreed to let them go, but after Moses left Pharaoh would change his mind. He
thought he could with stand God. Friends Pharaoh did this many times before he
finally let them go. And after letting them go he once again hardened his heart
and went after them to kill them all. It was at that point that God took his
life when the Sea closed in on him and all his soldiers. Friends he hardened his
heart once to often. He committed the unpardonable sin and went off into an
eternity of Hell. (MATT.23:
37,38). Yes
friends this unpardonable sin is committed in the heart. People have mistakenly
thought that this sin is “speaking against the Holy Spirit”, but the context
clearly demonstrates that this confession came only after repeated rejection in
the heart. It is a dangerous thing to reject the Holy Spirit or one time much
less over again. We do not know that there will be another opportunity to be
saved. (Heb. 3:7-15). We do not know when our hearts will be hardened forever
but we do know that this time will come to any unbeliever (Proverb 29:1) says “HE
THAT BEING OFTEN REPROVED HARDENETH HIS NECK, SHALL SUDDENLY BE DESTROYED, AND
THAT WITHOUT REMEDY”. Friends
I want you to remember that this sin is unpardonable. There is no forgiveness in
this life or in the world to come. A murder can be forgiven because
Moses, David, and Paul were. Adultery can be forgiven (John 8:1-11) Lying,
and stealing can be forgiven (Abraham and Jacob was). However dear
friends this sin can never be forgiven. The reason that this sin is final is
because it rejects God’s last appeal; there is nothing else, there is no one
else, there is no other plan; there is no other way of salvation. Man rejected
God in the Garden of Eden; man has rejected God’s prophets, man would not
listen to God’s Word. And friends God sent His only begotten Son and they have
rejected Him. Last dear friend God has sent 1). His Holy Spirit as His
last appeal. When a man rejects Him there is no other means available for
salvation. In conclusion friends let us take a look at why this sin is unpardonable (1).The Holy Spirit is God’s only means of conviction (John 16:8). When a person commits this sin there will be no more conviction in a person life (2). This person will believe the lie of Satan and be deceived just like Judas. This person will not be able to believe the gospel. Last dear friends remember that this is a sin committed only by unbelievers. Christians should not be confused or concerned about this sin. A Christian needs to focus on not grieving, quenching resisting, or vexing the Holy Spirit, and should continually seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Friends I beg each of you who has never received Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives today. Don’t say no to the Holy Spirit as He calls you to Jesus. Repent of your sins and come to Jesus today before it is to late for you. You know you are a sinner you know Jesus is the only way for salvation. You believe He did on the cross, you believe he arose three days later; you believe He is in Heaven now. You believe one day he is going to return to the earth but you have never asked Him to forgive you of your sins; you have never ask Him to come into your heart and be Lord and Savior of your life, you have never confessed Him before man. You have even been ashamed to tell people you are a Christian; therefore you have never really committed your life to Him. Friends if you are willing right now to ask Jesus to be Lord and Savior of your life, turn from your sins, confess Christ to the world and live for Him, it is not to late for you can still have eternal life. If you want this eternal life and you mean business with God. Repent this prayer after me. Dear Jesus forgives me of my sins come into my life and be my Lord and Savior, and I will trust you to take me to Heaven when I die. In Jesus name I pray Amen. If you have prayed that prayer and meant it with God then praise God for your new life. Email us at wfg1@indo.net.id and let us know about your decision to follow Christ. |
